Several of us started the day with a refreshing dip in Pyramid Lake before heading off to our next locality: Paisley Cave, Oregon. As we'd planned on the previous day, we stopped at Two Ledges Chamber on the way. While hiking up to the rock outcroppings to sample raptor pellets, we enjoyed watching two owls and a falcon fly overhead. We then continued on our way to Paisley, Oregon, home of the Mosquito Festival (fortunately we didn't suffer too badly from the festival's namesake). We ended up camping next to a river in a beautifully wooded valley. Unfortunately, as we drove to the campsite we noticed several trees next to the road that had been badly damaged due to exaggerated attempts to clear the road of branches. But all in all, we were extremely happy with our campsite, a cool change (both literally and figuratively) from the desert.

As we headed north to Oregon, the landscape changed drastically.
