We packed up camp quite efficiently and headed down the road to meet Kaitlin and Tony. Before heading back to Nevada, we stopped to help prospect for fossils for a while more. While looking, we ran across a rattlesnake and scorpion in addition to hearing the sonic boom of two fighter jets flying overhead. As we drove back towards pavement, we stopped at a vista to take several group pictures and just take in the view. We saw hawks, eagles, a coyote, and too many pronghorn antelope to count. It literally felt like we were on a safari. We turned onto our first paved road in the mid-afternoon and continued to drive towards Elko, Nevada, where we stopped for the night at the Thunderbird Motel. After taking much needed showers, we all walked to the Star Hotel's Basque Restaurant to eat and eat and eat (the guys had a eating competition because the proportions were so big...the winner is still under review).
A scorpion Jonathan came across while looking for fossils.
A rattlesnake resting at Rattlesnake Butte. Somewhat fitting, I suppose.
One of the many pronghorns we came across while driving out of Beaty's Butte area.
The view here was amazing!
